Exim not in customapache. Why?

I wonder, since it's possible to compile from source and let it work with directadmin beautifully, why exim is not part of the 'customapache' build system?

It's not in customapache because customapache was designed for the hosting stack depending on apache and things compiled into, or to work with, apache.

Dovecot was later placed into customapache, but exim is still installed from script.

Compiling exim is time consuming, and there's generally no reason to do it.

Except that directadmin's exim build may conflict with the OpenSSL (SSL/TLS) compilation of FreeBSD 6, which is easily solved by recompiling exim from source. See: http://www.directadmin.com/forum/printthread.php?t=14533. Compiling exim doesn't take any longer than compiling dovecot.

Apart from that it seems to me a matter of elegance: about all packages are compiled from source, except exim.

My recollection is that JBMC staff have already written that exim is supplied as a binary because it takes too long to compile.

You might want to search these forums, or write DirectAdmin support.
