Stupid problem:

exim don't want to send e-mail to shared server domains.

From shell it works fine, but in any IMAP (SMTP) client and squirrelMail it dosn't work.

External email's are weelcome.

Any ideas?

Thank you very much!

Is this normal and I don't need to be in panic?

Thank you very much for your responses!

Stop relaying (if you do) and set up better your exim, revert to better more standard config.

Seems that you installed a greylist or something, this is a bad choice on my mind because it makes load and only delayed the problem.

Have log lines is not a problem.

To stop relaying I changed my exim.conf to

hostlist relay_hosts = 127.0.0.1 , right?

I don't know what is greylist. How can I find this and disable? |whereis greylist| is empty

Log lines have a very big size right now... about 15 mb...

Just check out maillog again after ediing exim.conf and restating.

SSSSShhhhhhhh........

So, the last bug and notes about problem above...

Messages SENT via SquirrelMail are not coming to LOCAL mailboxes (but it works on other mailsboxes OUTSIDE). The same messages using client like OUTLOOK - comes to LOCAL perfect! LOGS are empty about this.

Messages, sent to ME from OUTSIDE - don't come to me without any error notice... (yesterday everything works back)

And again - mail loops back to me (MX problem?)

I was looking for resolving this problem in the forum, but nothing is working.

Don't have any ideas about what is this... :(

Just a tip : if you log to Squirrelmail with ip, it won't send messages... ( http://server_ip/squirrelmail )
You have to log by server hostname, not by ip ( http://mail.mydomain.tld/squirrelmail )

If you have problem with exim.conf, try to use default conf first.
xemaps, no, i use domain name... ok, the solution of problem sending to LOCAL names solved - just configure Squirrelmail to send mail via SMTP 587 with auth. 25 blocked with firewall.

Got new exim.config....
I can't get mails from OUTSIDE... don't know what's wrong... yesterday all worked fine... :(((((

Is there may be problem, that i have two IP adresses? One is for DA server, and other is for shared accounts? where is MX problem? iiihhh.... check this out - no... it's not... DA server account can't get e-mail's too...

Found error in /var/log/messages

Does the mainlog show OK after attempted local deliveries?

2)/var/log/mainlog
There's no such log in a standard DA configuration. Do you mean maillog?

Keep in mind that Squirrelmail is an imap client, and connects via imap. This is important to consider for reasons which will be obvious below.
Messages, sent to ME from OUTSIDE - don't come to me without any error notice...
Do you mean you can't see them via either Eudora/Outlook/etc., or squirrelmail? Or just that you can't see them on squirrelmail?

What is sm-mta? It's not a standard DirectAdmin program.

Are you running DirectAdmin?
And again - mail loops back to me (MX problem?)
Generally this means that your MUA (exim in a standard DirectAdmin configuration doesn't find the domain name in it's list of hosted domains (in the case of DirectAdmin, at /etc/virtual/domains but the mx record for the domain points to the local server. So the MTA doesn't know what to do with the mail.
I was looking for resolving this problem in the forum, but nothing is working.
This doesn't look at all like a standard DirectAdmin installation.
Don't have any ideas about what is this...
Neither do I. Is this a standard DirectAdmin installation?

You don't say how big it is so I have no idea if it's too big or not. It can easily run a gig a week on a busy server.
Nov 26 09:58:33 server sm-mta[6866]: kAQ4FKsD074972: to=<[email protected]>, delay=02:43:13, xdelay=00:00:00, mailer=esmtp, pri=392430, relay=bs47c.staffs.ac.uk., dsn=4.0.0, stat=Deferred: Operation timed out with bs47c.staffs.ac.uk.
This says that the recipient server, bs47c.staffs.ac.uk, never answered your server. It doesn't say why. That server doesn't answer my email requests on port 25 either; I'd guess it's not a valid mail server. It is listed as the mx server for bs47c.staffs.ac.uk, but we have no idea if mail to [email protected] is valid or not. To determine that you'll have to find the message in the exim outgoing queue (/var/spool exim) and analyze it yourself.
Is this normal and I don't need to be in panic?
I have no idea.

Got new exim.config....
Where did you get it from?

If you got it from:

files.directadmin.com/services/exim.conf

then you also need to download and install in your server this file:

files.directadmin.com/services/exim.pl

Because yesterday they were both changed and are dependent on each other.

Jeff

Very important note to olsenclub and anyone else who may have downloaded

files.directadmin.com/services/exim.conf

since Saturday, November 25, 2006:

You should also download and install:

files.directadmin.com/services/exim.pl

as the one won't work without the other.

Jeff

Guys, thank you very much for your answers!

Sorry for my misspelling. English is not my lang.
Of course I mean exim.conf and maillog...

I have standart DA installation :)

jlasman, in compair with yourmaillog the mine is very small :) about 5 mb :)

(yesterday everything works back) - What do you mean by this?

I mean, that LOCAL DELIVERY works fine right now (yeasterday I update exim.conf and exim.pl)

Right now EVERY MAIL from OUTSIDE to my mailboxes are lost. localdomain to localdomain works fine. When I send mail from local (any method to outide - webmail, smtp) it comes.

But all replyes and messages to me from OUTSIDE - don't come :( guess it is not exim. Exim is only for sending. Sender don't get any error messages. All e-mails just lost.

/etc/virtual/domains has the right entryes.

Exim runs on received email as well. I believe it is, but to make sure, see if you get an answer from telnet localhost 25.

Now check the /var/log/exim/mainlog to see if mail is even coming in, and if so, if you get local deliveries in the log.

Jeff

yes, telnet localhost 25 is ok.
(from outside localhost port 25 is closed by firewall)

jlasman, got the problem

----------
A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed:
****@eskina.ru
all relevant MX records point to non-existent hosts
-----------
So, there is absolutely MX problem.

I look at DNS management on of my shared server, and WONDER

ftp A **.**.93.107
localhost A 127.0.0.1
mail A **.**.93.107
pop A **.**.93.107
salon-vp.ru. A **.**.93.107
www A **.**.93.107
salon-vp.ru. NS ns1.kotelok.ru.
salon-vp.ru. NS ns2.kotelok.ru.
mail MX 10
salon-**.ru. TXT "***"

Why? Why, for exmpl. 'www' has A name, not CNAME?
Is something wrong? For the first look everything looks fine. Where is MX problem?

Make nslookup

server# nslookup
> mail.salon-**.ru
Server: **.**.90.129
Address: **.**.90.129#53

** server can't find mail.salon-**.ru: SERVFAIL

It looks like there is NO any MX entry!!!

I\m very very sad :( Please, any ideas?

By the way, my maillog show me a very big traffic of SPAM mails via sm-mta with closed relay. I UNINSTALLED sendmail. The maillog stoped rising and everything is ok. Seemed there is a script on the server, wich sends spam.

Is there may be problem because of this.
When I got new DA from my dedicated, I got 2 IP adresses. 89.108.93.107 and 89.108.90.252. MAIN domain at admin was KOTELOK.RU and the hostname was KOTELOK.RU. I don't know why, but second IP 89.108.90.252 - type SERVER - has the nameserver ns2.kotelok.ru, and the first one 89.108.93.107 - type SHARED has the nameserver ns1.kotelok.ru. Is it right? I guess my SERVER IP must be NS1.

After adding more domain names to users, I made a mistake. I remove from ADMIN level my main domain KOTELOK.RU. Then, in USER level I added this domain again.

May be the the problem somewhere there... :(

Mail's lost for about 4 days already :(

Checking kotelok.ru:

If these are your IP#s, and if exim is running on your server, then either your firewall or your upstream is blocking port 25 traffic.

Jeff

I'm very very stupid..... Sorry about this long topic.... I thought that port 25 is only for sending and block this in firewall.... now all works fine....

Thank you all a lot!
