Exim Problems

I am not that familiar with Exim so I will do my best to explain my problem.

For no reason at somepoint yesterday, Exim went crazy. I can send email to my email address and I can see them in the log, but I can't access them via webmail or pop3. It doesn't generate an error on the user end, it just appears that no mail is available.

I have checked my exim.conf, restarted, replaced it the the one from the knowledgebase, I'm still down.

I am at a loss for solutions. To tell you the truth, Exim has been a thorn since I've used it. I appologize if I didn't post more specific information, but if you will tell me where to get what you need to see, I will happily do it. I just need some help to get this working again.

Thanks.

Exim only delivers email, if you are having problems reading it, then you need to tell us about the pop3/imapd servers you are using. DA allows you to use vm-pop3d/UW-IMAP or Dovecot (pop3/imap). Your /etc/exim.conf file needs minor changes to work with Dovecot, and they should have been applied when doing the dovcot install/conversion from the customapache directory.

I also have the same problem. I've check my exim.conf and found that it haven't been patch yet. Can someone tell me how to manually patch those line in exim.conf.dovecot.patch into exim.conf?

But we still haven't heard back from jtouchet.

jtouchet, please let us know if you've found the cause of your problem? You can run exim manually from the command line, emulating an email delivery, and see what exim is doing with the email, to see if exim is delivering the email properly.

And you can look to see if email is ending up in your mailboxes.

If email ends up in your mailboxes but you can't download it then your problem could be with POP3.

Sorry for the delay

I am perplexed.....

I did figure out my problem. I restarted the box remotely and when it powered back on POP3 didn't work.

So, I started going through the webmail clients. I opened Squirrel Mail and saw all of my email (odd.)

Since SQmail is imap, I changed my Outlook settings around to imap and everything works fine. The odd part was that I've used DA for 8 months on this box with POP3, never touched imap, nor did I change settings.

I'm not going to complain, since migrating to imap was a future project. I can see where it can be confusing though, considering that I didn't know what was going on.

Thank you all thought.

It appears your problem is with POP3, then.

Not using POP3 because it doesn't work may work for you, but would it work for clients?

Or do you use your serer only for your own site(s)?

Either way, I'd want to know why it doesn't work.

Jeff

I do not use this for my clients. We use a seperate server for our clients.

The fact that I have to change to IMAP from POP3 is hardly worth more time of investigating just for my own use.
