Exim w/LDAP

Any reason why implementing LDAP for controlling Exim email accounts/aliases/etc. would not work?

Has anyone ever successfully implemented this?

What ramifications would there be? For instance, would it be difficult to maintain through upgrades?

I suppose the main reason it wouldn't work is because DA would have to be rewritten to write to LDAP rather than to the files it writes to now.

Got it.

I wasn't even sure if Exim had some kind of management API, an API DA may possibly have been using. In which case, making Exim LDAP enabled would alter Exim's API to save configuration data out as appropriate.

Yes, I know, a long shot. However, the way it _should_ work in my little idealized universe.
