Hello,

We're thinking about using fcgid + suexec, so we can get cloudlinux working with the memory functionality (CL is not compatible with mod_php) on our DirectAdmin servers, and wanted to know if anyone can give me any feedback on fcgid.

I hear it need a lot of tunning and I read on some places that it's a bit of a hassle to work with, but the threads I read are very, very old (some back to 2006).

Any experiences shared are highly appreciated.

Thanks

Ok, we went ahead and dove into fcgid, and it's working fabulously. Surely uses up a lot more memory, but hey, it's safe and fast. Cloudlinux is just fantastic. A combination of all of these things really make a new before and after for us using Directadmin.

The truth is that fcgid really requires you spend sometime reading the documentation so you understand what the parameters do. What I found all over the net is a bunch of misconfigured setups. Some rediculous.

If anyone needs any help, I would be happy to lend a hand.

Cheers.

And is there any noticeable difference between using fcgid on CentOS and cloudlinux? Can you share some graphs?

Hello Zeiter,

Yes. fcgid consumes about 3 times more memory, it's safer, and it's fast. Very fast. With Cloudlinux and a good set of fcgid settings it's faster than mod_php. Today I've test it on a 400 user shared server with 12GB RAM, 4 Core, 144 processes, fcgid, cloudlinux, selinux and suPHP xen vm. We use sas drives in raid10.

0 swap.

:)

You really have to mess with the fcgid settings, and really know what they do. Read the docs. It's tricky. Don't just put what you find on the net. Every server is differnet. Users are different.

Hope that helps.
