would be nice to be able to set time/date/time zone from the administrator settings area.
not a huge deal to do it over ssh but....would just be nice to not have to.

Time and date would be fairly easy, but shouldn't be necessary if you're running against a timeserver, which you should be on an internet-connected system.

As for being able to change the timezone... that's a bit complex if you need to presume that end users may not know which file works for them; It would require a fairly long list of files. In a dropdown box? How could DirectAdmin help people figure out exactly which file they need?

Generally you set up your timezone once, when you build the server; I'm not sure DirectAdmin needs to build an interface to something you set once and (usually) forget.

I was thinking more on the actual server admin only end and not something users/reseller would deal with.
their stuff can be done (usually) through their php.ini settings.
when a license reseller builds a box (dedicated) often you need to go in and set the stuff as wanted/needed.
yeah its usually only done once which is why I said doing through shell isn't huge deal, but it would be nice to have the setting right in the administrator settings area.
although ability to point to a timeserver from there would also be nice.

on a side note this is why cpanel has (IMO) such a huge following. stuff done from the panel w/o shell usually.
make custombuild present itself similar to easyapache and you got a real winner there. not that its not a winner right now but you know what I mean.

In my opinion that it is stuff like that which makes cpanel cost prohibitive. DirectAdmin can be the same as cpanel but then its going to cost the same as cpanel. I will go back to writing my own control panel before paying that kind of cost.

As a suggestion though one could use free Webmin to handle some server admin stuff that DirectAdmin does not handle like time zone and time.

yeah its a balancing act, but if it gets more sales may be worth it.
just a thought :)

I've recently bought a book on using cPanel to do webhosting (yes, there is such a thing). I've spent a few days now going through all the settings cPanel sets for an install which you'll no doubt never install again. One vote for the DirectAdmin concept: logical defaults, change what you need to because if you don't know, it probably doesn't need to be changed.

When I find things I want to change in future setups, either for myself or for clients, I make dontes in the 'menu' files I use for installations.
