seems a bit dated for 2018 if we can have simple "mark as spam" and "mark as not spam" buttons in the message menu in Roundcube.

Yup, would still be a very nice feature to have. It looks like the plugin was integrated in the core starting from RoundCube 1.4:

"The features of this plugin have been integrated into the markasjunk plugin in the Roundcube core (v1.4+), via pull request 6504. This plugin is now obsolete."

The plugin markasjunk is already a part of RoundCube package.

The suggested fork #4 of the plugin can work with INBOX.teach-isspam folder.

If you want to use the native plugin you can change INBOX.teach-isspam to Junk
