I am brand new to DirectAdmin, and have root to my new server. But I am having trouble figuring out this DirectAdmin. I have googled but can't find anything, so I am placing my questions herer. It only shows two directories, domains and mail. Is there a way to get to config type files to edit, like the /etc and /user directories, etc, so I can edit files here in File Manager instead of through the putty tool? And if so how, any pointers to real training on File Manager would help. Also, does file manager connect to my server via SSH? Thanks in advance, Tony.

No. Filemanager was only designed to allow users to edit files within their /home directory that they have permission to access. No, the FileManager does not use ssh (to my knowledge) since it is physically located on the server it's managing. ;)

Jon, I think a less confusing way to answer would be:

File Manager is part of the control panel so if you've set your control panel for ssh, then File Manager works through ssh.

Ok, I found the three types of help manuals which are starting to explain things as I read them. But the way this help thing is written is very weird. Things are much harder to understand than they should be. I mean take the statement there that says " DirectAdmin pre-forks. This means that all children that will be taking requests are spawned before any requests are made." I mean how goofy is that? Certainly someone could have made that a little more user friendly. Ha.

Tony,

It's easy to complain. A bit harder perhaps to actually rewrite the guide yourself. Then you can pass the rewritten guide on to your users, or if you feel so inclined, even back to the community.
