Filezilla showing error "Failed to retrieve directoy listing".

I have directadmin control panel installed in my server and whenever I try to connect to an FTP account using Filezilla, it shows " Failed to retrieve directoy listing". I have CSF firewall installed but port 21 is allowed in csd.conf file so why am I not able to connect?

Need a method without disabling firewall

My VPS doesn't support tls and maybe that's an issue. I am able to successfully connect after disabling firewall but I need a method without disabling firewall as I am starting my own web hosting business.

Maybe you should try PASV mode, but in that case you also have to open the passive ports in CSF.
Or... if you have enabled it in Filezilla, then disable it so it will only use port 21.
Next to that, I've seen issues with Filezilla more often, it might be a good idea to try another FTP client and see if that also has the same problem.

Don't want users to connect with passive mode

My users will complain and ask for a refund if I tell them that they need to connect with passive mode so i want another way

True, I was thinking of my private server which has all outgoing traffic allowed.
However it does not make any sense to use only active FTP with high ports, since as it is readable from the document, the client side firewall will block the traffic anyway.
So it's best to just use pasv FTP, also for clients.

To avoid issues with active/passive mods and ports in firewall, we use SFTP managed by ProFTPD.
