forgot admin password and messed up generation of random pass

Good day!

I forgot my admin password, but could log on thru another admin account. In that account I "logged in as Admin" and clicked send password to email... When I recieved the letter password field said "* irretrivable *". Then, I tried to send a new random password, which resulted the same.

I know have access to only one account, which is not "admin". Help! I need to access my website on another account.

How about just using the password reset feature?

Do you have root access to server?
Just do:
passwd admin
and enter new password.
Then login to directadmin with this password and change it to another, to sync main, ftp and mail passwords.

why does this not work for me?

djones@illusion:~$ sudo passwd admin
Enter new UNIX password:
Retype new UNIX password:
passwd: password updated successfully

yet using the password i enter there in directadmin still says "Invalid login. Please verify your Username and Password". any clues?
