in the next few weeks I get my own dedicated server and I have to choose the software to install (DA,Plesk,...)

I would like to take DA...

but I have one question:

[email protected] has its POP3 account

but I also want to forward all the emails sent to [email protected] to another email like [email protected]

so I have to create a pop3 for my email [email protected]
and I have to create a forwarder for my email [email protected] to [email protected]

And now I get the emails to both? Is this possible without any troubleshooting?

I hope I can get some support

So you want to forward a copy but also retain the e-mail in the original account too?

or just forward all e-mail and not keep a local copy?

You can do both if you like, one is easier then the other though.

Both are easy.

In DirectAdmin forwarders and mailboxes are completely independent of each other.

If you want a mailbox named [email protected], just create a mailbox abcd in the domain.com control panel.

If you want a forwarder named [email protected], just create a forwarder abcd in the domain.com control panel, forwading the mail to [email protected].

If you want both, create both.

One is one step and one is two steps :poke :)

Thanks though I didn't know they were independent of each other and would work together as well.

I seem to remember something not quite right with this but I cannot remember exactly what. It could have had something to do with system users. So to be safe I usually also include the pop3 account in the forwarder as well so that I know for sure it will forward to both the pop3 and to the secondary address.

Yes, this doesn't work for system users. For system users, when you set up a forwarder the POP account doesn't get mail.

Jeff what is your recommended way of forwarding a system user and also keeping a local copy too? If you add both addresses in the forward it will create a loop no?

My personal recommend way (as you call it, or best practice as I call it) is to not use system accounts for email if possible; in my opinion it exposes the main site password each time you receive email.
