Frontpage publishing ftp: or http:

When I try to publish my webs directly through frontpage I get errors and it wont connect if I put the http infront of my domain, but if I use ftp it goes through. Am I suppose to use ftp, I thought I was suppose to use the http if I have Frontpage installed? I have FP extensions installed on all my sites. In cpanel when I add frontpage it says not to use ftp after installing FP ext.. Whats the recouse if I use ftp though FP to publish?

If you use ftp then you are uploading not publishing. This mean that none of the FP specific functions will work such as the Webbot stuff, http://support.microsoft.com/kb/143090

Get used to this though because MS stopped supporting FP last year (http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/frontpage/HA101205221033.aspx) and many hosts are starting to uninstall FP server extensions. You can still use FP but it will have to be done through ftp or from what I hear mod_dav can be used to upload via http although I have never tried it.

Warren, unless you have your own DirectAdmin server we cannot walk you through determining if FrontPage is turned on for your account. You should probably contact your hosting provider as only your provider can tell you how your account is setup.

You can safely ignore what Floyd wrote about DAV, as that's a serverwide installation that has to be done by your provider, and it doesn't fullly support FrontPage either.

He's right in that over time you won't be able to find support for FrontPage much longer.

I thought most people here had their own server. I didn't realize mrfantasy was only the end user and not also an admin. My bad.

Sometimes I don't catch this kind of issue either, Floyd; don't feel bad.

The giveaway is it's a first post and he's writing from the point of view of an end-user.

When the first post is about publishing a site, it's a safe assumption the poster is an end-user.
