FTP no permissions

I have read and read, and I can't seem to beat this one. I have a DA install on CentOS 5 and no matter what FTP account I use, I have only read access to any and all files (not all, ones in the account directory). I get Access is denied whenever I try to upload, delete, etc. permissions look good, folder and file owner/group match the proftpd.passwd user/group ids, I can see a new proftpd process running with the same user name (and id) when I log in, but still no write access. I even tried, just to test it, setting the permissions of the account root folder to 777 (recursive) and still no write access. This leads me to believe that even though the process is running under the user account, it is not being authenticated correctly, but I would think it wouldn't allow the login if this were true. proftp runs under the account ftp, but I again even tried running it under root, and still the same issues. What the hell am I missing here?

Thanks!

Are you using the standard ProFTPd configuration files installed by DirectAdmin?

ProFTPd is configurable to allow/disallow any permissions even if the file's attributes allow them. But I don't see how that could be if you're using DirectAdmin standard configuration.

Has it ever worked?

I hate to say this on a first post but I don't see how to resolve this without logging into your server and looking. If we're to do that we charge; we're a third-party DirectAdmin administration company.

Perhaps other posters will have more ideas.
