If I have directadmin installed on a FreeBSD 5.3 system and I do a full system backup and a backup from the resellers section, will I be able to take that to a new fresh install of FreeBSD 5.3 and restore it with no problems? Is that the Best approach?

I don't think so. There seems to be some files missing from sysbak that will give you a hard time upon a system restore. A couple of people have posted some files on this board as to what you need to add to sysbak in order to succesfully restore your setup to a new server.
