Google is no longer allowing secure POP3 connetions to mail servers running self-signed Certificates. Gmail users who want to get their email from your POP3 server and read it in their Gmail web interface have always had two choices: either unencrypted login, or secure login. But now the Gmail servers won't let your clients log into their accounts securely unless you've installed a Secure Certificate from an approved vendor:

No more self-signed Certificates.

Big G is in a bit of bother, their CPC AdWords are suffering - I know this move isn't related but, other than security, I'm sure there's hidden agendas for this move.

They have changed their Google Apps to be a paid service to new users not so long ago.

Have they bitten off more than they can chew? We are about to find out I think. Also, annoying webmasters by updates to search doesn't help either.

Well

Alternatively, you can disable using SSL in Gmail by unchecking ‘Always use a secure connection (SSL) when retrieving mail’on the Accounts and Import tab in your Mail settings. However, this means that your password and email will not be protected while sent over the Internet, so we don’t recommend disabling this.

So you still have got a choice.

Yes you do, but the choices no longer include using a self-signed Certificate. Perhaps we can argue that everyone uses a commercial certificate, but that should probably be a choice, too, unless there's a good reason to consider a self-signed Certificate a security issue. Perhaps a checkmark if you want to use it, so you'd stop and think.

How do I go about adding a signed certificate on my directadmin box for use with email and http?

Discussed multiple times in these forums. Please search.

Or buy one from me, including install on your DirectAdmin-based server, us$45/year. If interested please email me for information.
