Hi all,
i think a ive got a problem with the sata (onboard) controller.

Suddenly the server act really strange. Many errors on the webpages. No connection possible with ssh.
The only thing i could do was a reboot. On the console there where a lot of errors with "I/O errors"

After the reboot everthing function normally. In the logfile /var/log/messages the following appears

Jun 8 14:57:05 grevy kernel: hda: irq timeout: status=0xd0 { Busy }
Jun 8 14:57:05 grevy kernel: ide: failed opcode was: unknown
Jun 8 14:57:40 grevy kernel: ide0: reset timed-out, status=0xd0
Jun 8 14:57:40 grevy kernel: hda: status timeout: status=0xd0 { Busy }
Jun 8 14:57:40 grevy kernel: ide: failed opcode was: unknown
Jun 8 14:57:40 grevy kernel: hda: drive not ready for command
Jun 8 14:58:10 grevy kernel: ide0: reset timed-out, status=0xd0
Jun 8 14:58:10 grevy kernel: end_request: I/O error, dev hda, sector 11956671
Jun 8 14:58:10 grevy kernel: Buffer I/O error on device hda2, logical block 1239552
Jun 8 14:58:10 grevy kernel: lost page write due to I/O error on hda2
Jun 8 14:58:10 grevy kernel: end_request: I/O error, dev hda, sector 11956679
Jun 8 14:58:10 grevy kernel: Buffer I/O error on device hda2, logical block 1239553
Jun 8 14:58:10 grevy kernel: lost page write due to I/O error on hda2

This type of errors where logged until the reboot.

After the reboot i executed the command 'hdparm -t /dev/hda'

[root@grevy ~]# hdparm -t /dev/hda

/dev/hda:

Timing buffered disk reads: 12 MB in 3.24 seconds = 3.71 MB/sec

This is not good. Normally it will be around 45 MB/Sec

Ive did the exact same on the second harddisk

/dev/hdc3:

Timing buffered disk reads: 16 MB in 3.12 seconds = 5.14 MB/sec

A little better but still a very poor result.

The server self function normal. Httpd, email, myqsl, Backupping data without any problems.

Does did mean there is a problem with the hardware or something ?
