Hello. I'm having a lot of troubles adding an A record to an account.

I've followed all the directions and added the record several days ago.

The record is mapped to a new IP address and is a subdomain of my existing account.

The URL is still not pointing to the new IP address though.

Any suggestions as to what might be going wrong?

I added the record under Gestion des DNS

Thanks for any help you can give me.

Please post a real domain and the IP# it's supposed to be pointing to.

Jeff

Hi Jeff.

The domain is:

archives.martinbeauleu.ca

it should be pointing to 64.194.251.35

Instead, it's pointing to: 64.34.124.103

I added the A record, just like the directions said to... it's been several days.

DNS Report says:

[ERROR: The parent servers say that the domain archives.martinbeauleu.ca does not exist.]

Generally that means you didn't register your nameservers.

In your case however it appears to be a more serious problem:

The whois system says that martinbeauleu.ca isn't a registered domain.

You can't just make up a domain name; you have to register it with a domain registrar.

When I go to my own registration site and try to register it, it's available for registration.

Hi.

I typed my last note too fast and mis-spelled... So much for multi-tasking...! Sorry.

The A record is:

archives.martinbeaulieu.ca

I don't want to change the nameservers... I just want to use the same nameservers that the parent domain uses:

http://www.martinbeaulieu.ca

The sub-domain is re-directing to a SSL/TLS-aware Apache webserver page...

To use the same nameservers the parent domain uses you have to put NS records into the nameserver records for the parent domain assigning authority to you for the archives subdomain.

Jeff

ok. Thanks for all your help. So I just need to add two NS records with the same value as the parent domain?

Actually, I'm looking at the page now, and it only lets me add an NS record for the main domain, not a sub-domain.

Would you mind giving me the exact directions? Thank you.

I don't have enough information.

On what kind of server/service to you host DNS for the parent domain?

Jeff

You haven't answered the question.

What kind page doesn't let you add the NS record?

This is a DirectAdmin forum. DirectAdmin does let you add the record.

So I have no idea what you're writing about.

Jeff

I'm on the DirectAdmin DNS Menu page (Gestion des DNS).

The page lets me add an NS record, but only for the main domain, not the subdomain.

See the screenshot.

Thanks for your patience.

The poster called me and we worked through the problem. I was confused; she doesn't use DA; her client does.
