I'm having problems getting the server to resolve domain name with hyphen or dash as in xx-abcdomain.sg

After searching the web for some answers, it seems that domain name cannot have hyphen in the 1st and last character as well as the 3rd and 4th.

There's this FAQ here,
http://www.webnic.cc/support_domainfaq.html#req

After checking with the registrar, they said this is possible and webnic is making a mistake and they sent this domain which works, http://hl-display.sg

My question is whether there's any settings that can be done on DA that can make this domain able to work in DA?

Please advise.

I dont think is DA depending, In fact, i was able to add hl-display.sg on my server without problem, i think your problem is another one.

We need the real domain name to be able to find some possible solution.

I can add in the domain in DA without any problems too. The problem is that it fails to resolve to the server. What is your nameserver? I can point to yours to test.

The nameservers? What have this to do with nameservers?

Again, give real information and you get better help.

For example, did you wait the right time for dns propagation after domain add? Have you set on domain reseller the correct nameservers for that domain? Is your bind working correctly?

Without real domain.. there is not that much that anyone can do i suppose.

Ok, now i can find some errors:

http://intodns.com/ba-seminar.sg

WARNING: One or more of your nameservers did not return any of your NS records.

ERROR: One or more of your nameservers did not respond:
The ones that did not respond are:
203.81.53.77

You should already know that your NS records at your nameservers are missing, so here it is again:

ns1.eventspeople.com.
ns2.eventspeople.com.

No valid SOA record came back!

Is ns1.eventspeople.com your main domain or where you manage dns?

Is bind running on that server? Cause ip 203.81.53.77 (that seems to be the same from both nameservers) to me doesnt reply on a dig command and neither on ssh connection.

Check if this is valid server, valid ip, services running, firewall restrictions.

Regards

Thanks for the info, I guess the nameserver is not working at all.

Note that ba-seminar.sg is not a third level domain; it's a second level domain with a hyphen. A hyphen does not create another domain level.

Note also that there is a difference between a dash and a hyphen. I don't know of any keyboards which have both, but if your does you should make sure you use a hyphen as a dash is not a standard ascii character and may require special notation to work in DNS.

Ok now im confused, google traslate dash and hyphen in same way.. where is the difference?

Just curios, no matter if you dont get time to respond.

Regards

In typesetting definitely not; in ascii, definitely not:

Visit this page:

http://www.ascii-code.com/

and then in your browser search for multiple occurrences of these words:

hyphen

dash

On keyboards, I'm not sure; I'm only familiar with english-language keyboards.

My statement is only a heads-up. We should probably call them hyphens, because in the ascii code table they're hyphens. And using the word or could imply that either is acceptable (and in fact they do both exist).
