Help server updated with yum

[Rip]

My server was accidently updated with yum. Now lots of things no longer work properly. HELP! Please tell me where to start in recovering from this. I can get it back going again right? Here is a list from the yum.log

Well first thing I noticed was it was booting to runlevel 5 again. No problem with that. Next issue I could not access it via the hosting IPs. I could get on the console. I could also ssh into a backdoor on a management lan, basically ssh to a log server and then ssh from there to my shared hosting box. The box shows 4 interfaces.

So if I shutdown eth1 although it wasn't connected anyway I could talk to the box through eth2. I just went to the office and connected eth1 to the firewall and now at least the websites appear to be up. I never used to have both of them connected, weird. I'm off to see what is left still not working. Thanks for the link to the thread on the subject, I will be sure to configure the right exclusions after getting this cleaned up.

If you don't mind an insecure server running lots of extra stuff a server shouldn't run, then you're right; it's no problem. If you do care about system security, it is a problem.

On linux you change the /etc/runlevel file to make sure it'll boot as runlevel 3 and then reboot.

While you can change the runlevel without rebooting, because of the way DA manages some startup "stuff" you'd be much better off rebooting.

You're running a private lan on eth0. DA is designed to run on eth0 by default. Did you install DA to run on eth1?

Which makes it a great IP# for private access, but not for anything else. If the main IP#s are on this interface, then it's likely that DA will fail at some point. DNS may have problems depending on what IP#s you've set up for DNS.

That's quite unlikely. It's more likely that the system renumbered the physical NIC interfaces, and the second interface was found by the system as eth1.
