Hello,

We have a dedicated server with DirectAdmin. Under the user "admin" I have bunch of domains set up. Some of them are actually working websites right now sitting on our other server, but those going to be moved here soon.

So I'm wondering is there anyway we can view the public_html folder from browser for these domains BEFORE pointing the domain DNS to this new server? I just want to make sure everything works in order before changing the DNS.

For example, I can go to: http://MyIpAddress:80/~admin/ and I can see how the site looks even before I point the domain DNS to this server.

So what do I need to do to see my other domains in web browsers? Any ideas?

Thanks in advance guys,

Vincent.

The easiest way to do it would be to make a temporary addition to the local hosts file on your desktop/laptop computer, so you'll see the site on your new machine. Be sure to remove the line later.

On an Apple-based system, and on a linux-based system, the file is in /etc/hosts. I'm not sure where it is on a Windows-based system.

To make life easier, once you've found it, create a link from your deskto so you can easily edit it in the future.

You may need to restart your browser when making changes to your hosts file, so you'll see the latest changes.
