I am trying to set up a domain on a shared IP. I have transferred the files with FTP, and am now browsing to the site with some trouble.
First, it took me awhile to figure out that I couldn't just go directly to http://1.2.3.4 and see the index.html file I expected to see.
Second, after browsing this forum, I realized that the way to access the site I wanted was: http://1.2.3.4/~username/index.html
The problem is that ~username is not how I would like the URL to appear on a browser.
Do I have to assign an IP to a domain, in order to be able to browse to that domain directly?
Is there a way to host a domain on a shared IP, yet still access that domain without the ~username in the URL?
Please help, I'm brand new at this....
