Any idea if this will happen?

All of the others are useless IMHO and the opinon of others asking for it.

No disrespect meant but is the DA team too busy to update DA and add the many requested features?

I hope this include in the DA update soon. I have been waiting for a long time.

"No disrespect meant but is the DA team too busy to update DA and add the many requested features?"

I am starting to have my concerns as well.
Every update seems minor(but useful). Which I don't have a big problem with. But it just seems DA can not sustain the growth of their software. Of course I could be way off base, but I see no evidence of this. It really shouldn't be a big deal to integrate horde 3.5 with the goodies. Every other control panel does. Just looking at some of the outdated packages
does not instill confidence.

I have a few accounts cancel my services because I don't have the Horde Webmail install. I hope the DA include this Horde Webmail soon.

You can install Horde yourself if you need to; information is available on these forums.

Jeff

If you have a read around the net a lot of people don't want DA because you don't use a decent client like Horde

Why not use something better or make it an option like Cpanel?

Don't get me wrong I think DA is better in most respects but some simple things seem to be shunned as "it is easy to do so do it yourself"

As Jeff said in his last post and most unquestionably many other folks on these forums throughout time, you can install Horde on your own like you would any other piece of software.

There is instruction for installing in FreeBSD but I haven't find instruction for installing in CentOS 4.1

Yes is would be nice make it an option for users to select.

Decent in your opinion, I gather?

That's simply an opinion.

Install what you like, or find another control panel that fits your needs.

Better? May we take that as your opinion as well?

The DA folk have decided what they want to install and what they want to support. You might even argue that they've installed what they like "better" though none of us have any reason to know that.

What they have done is given us an opportunity to install any other package we want.

So go for it. :)

I'm confused do you speak for DA are you employed by them?

IF you have a poke around any forums you will see the only client asked for is Horde and not the crap that DA comes with ....it is the opinion of the majority :)

You will always see people agreeing it would be nice to at least be a control panel option to use horde

The main thing keeping me and others is small things like lack of Horde and if this is the attitude of the DA team then I think it would be a mistake to change :(

I speak for myself. I am not employed by DA.

I own and run a service company dedicating to supporting small hosting companies and also some high-end hosting users who require dedicated servers.

We also buy up very small hosting companies as their owners decide to leave the business.

Personally I really like Horde Imp (the full name of the Horde IMAP-based webmail client).

However DA doesn't come with it.

There have been other requests for it in the past.

I was not commenting about your request for Horde IMP; I'd like it myself. I've made the choice to not install non-standard packages on our own servers simply to keep management effort to a minimum. I suppose you've made the same issue; business is full of such tradeoffs.

I was commenting about your presentation of opinions as facts. And also about the ability we get with DA to "do it ourselves"; most control panels don't offer such flexibility.

Personally I'd rather see the DA staff work on things that only they can implement. But that, again, is just my opinion.

And as moderator, one thing I won't do, is allow the usage of this DA-owned forum to bash DirectAdmin without challenge on the basis of opinions.

Hi Jeff,

First of all just want to say no pun intended to you or DA. I like DA a lot but what I have been trying to say and what users on and off this forum have been trying to say is that some small things need to be addressed.

My comment about "it is easy to do" is the response I often see on these boards to a range of requests and I find it frustrating to see that.

I can also see you understand the importance of Horde and how people want a standard installation and don't want to start hacking around although it is cool that DA unlike other CPs has this feature.

My comments are not meant to bash DA but to improve it.

The fact is that everyone I have spoken to and users that have seen the default DA webmail client think it is crap. I haven't seen any response of people saying they prefer the default webmail client.

Of course it is subjective but based on the subjective opinions of nearly everyone I have seen and spoken to, the default webmail is crap and should be replaced with anything such as Horde or arguably OpenWebmail/Squirremail or better yet as others agree it should be a CP option of which one to use......

I don't want this to be a war over such a simple request :(

I have said many times that DA is more stable and better in many aspects because of the small things it does well/better than others.

But to make people switch it has got to address a few small things such as this.

When I see less than friendly responses to simple suggestions it is disheartening and has me and others thinking it is not the CP for us.

I am a biased person admittedly when it comes to this stuff, if I wasn't biased I would argue nearly anything is good and couldn't decide which feature/option/OS to go with although I do it based on my needs and facts.

Anyway that's my rant.

I'll leave this one up to the DA staff.

Cheers Jeff/DA team no disrespect meant!

If DA wants to include Horde as default, it has to make it right:
-Allow a user to change a password
-Allow a user to see its quota
-Allow a user to modify filters
-Allow a user to modify the spamassassin settings.

All this is available in Horde, you just need to set it right so that it has access to the DA config files and to the right paths.

How do we know when a request will be implemented in the future update? Meanwhile I am still searching on this board on how to install Horde to my CentOS 4.1 server. So far there is no instruction or direction for CentOS 4.1 yet.
I know is might be a sample setup for someone on this board. But for me is totally different I have very little knowledge for Linux OS. May be there are some Senior DA users willing to donate sometime to write an "How to setup Horde Webmail for DA"
While we are waiting for DA to include in Horde webmail.

There is nothing special to it, really. If you follow the instructions at horde.org and store your prefs in the DB, then it's not really difficult. It takes time because there is not installer yet, but you can pay the bounty on Horde to make it change ;)
