On viewing my apache error logs.

I almost see this daily being spammed there,

sh: host command not found

I have the latest Debian 5.0.6 Net-Install and Directadmin installed perfectly too . I don't know why Host didn't install itself but maybe because I didn't run an apt-get update or upgrade on my Debian because it's still lenny . Not sure.

Is there any way I could fix this error or install host ?

Apt-get install host ?

@Peter_Laws:

I'm presuming you mean run a bash script.

@AsadMoeen:

Please supply some contact so we may see if the host command should be run, or if perhaps someone is trying to attack your server running a script or program named host.

And this problem was basically observed when this started happening:

I posted it there. My apache processes starts to spam with random pids . Like 50 processes at a time by itself causing almost 90-100% CPU and stucks the system which doesnt respond until the system is restarted or just apache is restarted if we have a little connectivity still there to the system.

It doesn't matter if traffic is high or low .
Or if one specific IP is connecting multiple times or different IP's.

It just happens randomly. I strongly believe, there could be some settings that need to be done for Apache. Or optimization. I actually don't know much about it because I'm a noob at this stuff. All what I do is by reading guides/ tuts.

Btw, I use latest Debian 5.0.6 Net-Install which is the basic package without any extra installs except Directadmin which installed perfectly too. Everything is default and also no other system package could be interfering with the ones installed since none was installed.

I've deleted your contact address. I didn't mean contact; I meant the word context, as in:

Please supply some context so we may see if the host command should be run, or if perhaps someone is trying to attack your server running a script or program named host.

By that I mean show more of the log entry.

Now you've confused me even more, by posting what is essentially the same problem in two separate posts. I'll try to remember to respond there.

Should I merge the two threads? Or delete this one? Or delete the other one? Those are your only choices.

Jeff

People are more considered about the Usage thing in the other topic.

So I thought to start one for the Host command separately.

You can merge if you like

I'll take your word for it and leave both threads alone, but if answers start duplicating I reserve the right to do a merge. The problem with a merge is that replies are inserted by date, and it may make replies that don't use quotes a bit hard to follow.

Topic is now locked.

PMs to me work; I just tried it, and I get lots of them. More than I'd like, because I don't want to log in to respond; I prefer email to my email address in my siglines at the bottom of every one of my posts. But I don't block PMs.

As to your link; if it has a new reply, it'll trigger into my system and I'll read it, and if I have a response, I'll post it.
