Host name domain create account

This question has probably been asked before but I couldn't find it after a few searches. I have a new VPS and I simply want to create an account/domain for the domain that is assigned to the hostname. I tried to create a reseller account with that domain but it says its in use? This was always no problem with Cpanel but I'm not familiar with Direct admin.

So just to be clear:

Hostname = mydomain.com
I want to create the package/account/domain whatever for the same domain mydomain.com so I can upload the website via ftp etc.

hostname should be server.mydomain.com
if you want to create domain , it should be :
mydomain.com

if it's not working. check your dns

After reading a lot of threads on here it seems you can't have the same domain name for your hostname as domains you want to use. So I changed the server name to server.mydomain.com

Its not a problem with Cpanel but seems to be with Directadmin. It doesn't let you create a domain for use because it says its already in use. But changing it the hostname to server.mydomain.com seems to be a workaround.
