Hosting Dispute -Can I bind the gateway IP to the server?

I hope this is the right sub forum.

I have a dedicated server with DA supplied by my hosting company. I am having a billing dispute (I'm asking for a credit) with them as they say I caused a problem and I believe they caused the problem during provisioning.

I have 8 IPs including 5 that I can see in DA. I cannot see the gateway IP in DA under "IP Management".

I had DNS problems from day one and it took 2 weeks before the host investigated and advised that "xx.xx.xx.225 is your gateway IP, and being bound on the server can cause crazy routing issues.. I suggest de-binding it from the server and trying the DNS connecting again".

I am certain that I didn't do anything to bind it to the system. I'm not that clever and had to read up on binding/unbinding when advised that was the solution.

The host believes that "this was most likely done [by me] through DirectAdmin which doesn't require Linux experience. Additionally, these configurations are automatically generated by our system which makes it impossible to be user error by one of the technicians."

Is it possible that I could have bound the gateway IP to the server via DA? Is it possible to do this in DA? I seems to me it would have been a very overt act requiring system & settings knowledge that I don't have. I did install KISS firewall that blocked all ports and required the host to console the server. Other than that I did configure IP tables.

If you tell me that I must have screwed up that's fine. But I would like to know if I have a case.

If you ever added the IP# ending in 225 to your IP#s, through DirectAdmin, yes, that binds it to the server. But in that case removing the IP# would remove the binding. If you didn't ever do that, then you probably aren't responsible for the problem, but you could have been, depending on what you may have done with DNS settings through the shell.
