I want to start offering hosting without a product.

In DA you have to fill the domain field. I can use a subdomain for it, but that is not that great because I also have to change the DNS for the maindomain(is on another server).

I can use a fake-name. Is that smart ?

Anyone tips or ideas ?

DirectAdmin is not designed to do IP# only hosting.

I don't think you have to change records on the main domain's server to get subdomains working on your DA server. I believe all you need to do is create wildcard nameserver records (*.example.com ns nsx.newserver.com) for the main domain on the server where it has it's DNS hosted, for two nameserver entries (replace nsx with ns1 and ns2 or ns3 and ns4, etc) pointing to your da server (newserver.com). Then all subdomains will look at your DA server for their DNS.

However, before you do it, be sure to read this article about the pitfalls:

http://www.iab.org/documents/docs/2003-09-20-dns-wildcards.html

thx Jeff. I'll read that article.

But the wildcard does not work if the subdmains are spread out over multiple servers i think...
