How do I dedicate an IP to a domain?

Hi!

I have created a reseller account and I use that for all my websites. All of my websites are using one set of nameservers.

Now I want to install an SSL cert. on one of my domains. As I have read at lot of places....I need a dedicated ip for that domain in order to install a cert.

I have an extra ip address, but I can't figure out wot to do with it? Do I have to change it with the domain registrant? (in place of nameservers?) or do I have to change something in the reseller level? or does it have to be something related to user level?


Also I was trying to get a cert. from EV1servers ($4.95) and for that I need to generate a RSA key. According to them "cd /apacheserverroot/conf/ssl.key"

so wot is the apache server root for DA.

I found 2 ssl.key files on my server

./etc/httpd/conf/ssl.key
./usr/local/directadmin/customapache/apache_1.3.31/conf/ssl.key


I just want to know which ssl.key should I use?

First, at the admin level, you assign the IP# to the reseller.

Then, at the reseller level, you assign the IP# to the domain user.

Are they still selling those certs for $4.95? I was looking for that page on their site today. Can you please post the URL?

None of the keys you mentioned.

Forget about any key. That's for manual installations.

On DA you'll do this:

At the reseller level you should enable SSL for the user's domains.

At the user level you'll create a CSR for the domain, and use it to get the cert.

Once you've got the cert you can go back to the SSL screen at the user level, and paste the cert underneath the key (which will show up in the window on that screen). Then follow the instructions on that page to install the cert.

If you can still get them at that price it probably doesn't matter, but EV1 doesn't give any warranty or help with those certs. If you manage to mess up everything you need to repurchase.

(If you have a $4.95 cert from EV1 that doesn't work, we'll accept it for full value in tradein for one of our certs, as long as it's for the same domain and there are no less than 11 months left on the EV1 cert.)

I got the first part, but I don't have any users for the reseller. I have all the domains in the reseller's account and don't have seperate users for each domain. So by that, the user of that domain (i.e. the reseller) is already assigned the extra ip, so how can I assign to that particular domain which is one of the 11 domains for that user(reseller).

I am gonna use the cert for a ecomm site, whose payments are made thru 3rd party (which is secure) and I just need the certificate for a https and to assure the customers that the site is encrypted. I thought about the self signed certificate or 1 from freessl, but the one provided by ev1 is compatible with popular browsers ( http://www.ev1servers.net/images/starterssl_comp.gif )

I'm reasonably sure you have to have the site under a reseller's user in order to change the IP# on it.

Keep that address handy; there doesn't seem to be a link to that page from anywhere else on ev1 anymore.

It's definitely a loss-leader for them.

so u mean like my reseller is X and then the site should be under a user Y (which is a user under X)?

I can do that, but won't that change the path like from home/X/site.com/public_html to home/Y/site.com/public_html ? And would I be able to use the same database?

And do I need to change this value?
