How do most of you have your comapny setup with DA?

I'm trying to figure out what the best setup is for me.

I want resllers to be anonymous so I setup the server domain web-host-servers.com

My main company site will be rocksolidnet.com

All of my clients execpt resellers will be assigned to rocksolidnet.com

name servers:

ns1.rocksolidnet.com
ns2.rocksolidnet.com

All resellers will be assigned to tp1.web-host-servers and

ns1.web-host-servers.com
ns2.web-host-servers.com
(they can setup virtual name servers if they wish)

So some questions:

1. Should I set myself up as a reseller or should I use the default admin account in DA?

Since tp1.web-host-servers.com is the main server name.

1. Should I setup this domain under the default "user" account in the default admin account?

I just trying to make my setup flexible and want to see what most prefer.

We have a generic name which we use for our server hostnames and for our nameserver names.

We also allow our resellers, our slave DNS clients, and our hosting clients as well, to use their own ns1.example.com and ns2.example.com if they wish, simply by publishing it in DNS with our IP#s.

System logins are da1.example.com, and da2.example.com, etc., where example.com is our generic name.

We set ourselves up as multiple resellers, one for each pricing plan.

Why? Because it makes it easier to send bulk emails to users of individual plans. However there's no magic reason to do it or not to do it.

Before DA had a screen you could use to see all your domains there were times when I wished I hadn't set it up that way.

We set up the hostname account as a default user but as you might realize, not much goes in that directory.

so is it setup this way.

main domain: example.com

dns: ns.example.com ns2.example.com, etc.

server name name: da1.example.com da2.example.com

Here's what I don't understand. What is the main domain name you use on all your servers?

1. Do you use example.com as the main "user"(under Admin) domain on all of your servers?

2. Do you use da1.example.com, da2.example.com, etc as the main "user" (under Admin) domain on your servers?

It would seem like #2 is correct but this causes mail issues with root mail on DA and according to their docs on this(which I can't find for some reason) servername should not be setup as a domain.

Sorry I'm a little confused. Number 1 above does not seem as if it can work in a multiserver environment.

Jeff, you might want to take a look at the 'Advanced Search' option when you're looking at your list of users. It lets you filter out certain users, and it may just be able to filter by package, though I'm not entirely sure.

Hope that helps,
Matt :)

I wish there was a simpale domain search above the advanced search. While I like the advanced search it is a little of a pain sometimes.

My system works extremely well for me; I don't see why I should chose one that "may just" work :) .

Hi Jeff,
I'm not sure if you missed the post so I am going to repost it.

We don't set up any domains under the admin login user level.

And we don't follow the DA instructions in section five of the advice found here.

We do have an aliases file, owned by mail:mail, and with permissions set to 600.

The contents are:
Code:
abuse: admin
hostmaster: admin
postmaster: admin
webmaster: admin
root: admin
bin: admin
daemon: admin
nobody: admin
ftp: admin
operator: admin
uucp: admin
admin: [email][email protected][/email]
where [email protected] should be replaced with the email address of a real person who will be responsible for getting any email addressed to any of these addresses.

Thanks Jeff. I just wonder how such a setup would work with Modernbill or another billing program.
