How install GD?

Not enough information.

What is your OS Distribution? What version of PHP do you use?

yum -y install php-gd php-xml php-mbstring php-pear php-xmlrpc php

I do not know who Linu is but obviously does not have a DirectAdmin server. The above command will break your server because it will force you to also install the apache rpm.

I've deleted Linu's post. In looking through his previous posts (including others I've deleted in the past) it appears that Linu is simply using us as a link farm.

He's not the only one doing it and usually I catch them. Since sometimes these posters are helpful I'm not sure if they should be suspended or not.

Generally what do you think?

IMHO. If they are posting dangerous "solutions" I think they should be banned. I understand making a mistake but if they are always posting stuff like that which could be harmful to a server then ban them.

I agree he should be warned and or removed, there are many new people here like myself that might take a post for granted that it works with direct admin since this is a da site.

What I posted does in fact work as I needed to install gd as well and there are no issues with the yum -y install gd. none that I found anyway lol

Mr:Jeff Lasman,I appreciate your action in deleting the post that was not meant for a directadmin server. if you really wanna suspend my account please go ahead.

To other folks ... if you are into server administration career or webhosting business, I am damn sure you will come across my post .. atleast from a search engine referance.

good luck fellows!!

You should never use the -y option unless you already know what other dependencies are going to be installed. Using -y with yum means you want it to automatically install all the dependencies. One should look at the whole list of things to be installed to make sure nothing is going to get broken by the rpm.

Linu,

It's never my intention to remove helpful posts, and I don't mind using siglines to help me get hits; I've been known to do it myself.

The key of course is that the posts are helpful and not harmful.

For now I think the best thing to do is simply trust you to not post anything which may not work with the DirectAdmin control panel. Now that you know we're a forum used by users of a specific control panel, DirectAdmin, I trust you'll keep that in mind.

Note that I'm not the only administrator; others may decide to do something different, and since I'm the lowest ranked administrator (I have no connection with the company other than our agreement that I should be an administrator/moderator) others may certainly override me.

Jeff

Thank you for the information Jeff. I will be more careful with the post next time.
