Hello,

I'm missing the possibility to add an ip6.arpa. reverse IP lookup record in Directadmin. Making reverse IP lookups for IPv6 adresses is no problem.

Do I need to do it on the commandline myself, or is there any other possibility to create reverse IP lookup records for IPv6 within Directadmin?

I'm wondering how important it is for DirectAdmin to be able to do this. Don't most of us have our rDNS lookups done by our upstream providers? The ones from whom we order the IP#s? This was almost true with IPv4 unless you were getting a class C allocation or more; do providers automatically give rDNS authority to you/us for small allocations typically used by most of us?

Not me. I have had as many as 8 C's. Maybe I am exceptional, I mean the exception.

Hello,

As we slowly fill out our support for IPv6 IPs, we'll add a check for this, and DA should figure it out automatically. It doesn't exist yet.

@floyd:

I also host my own rDNS zones, but I've never used DirectAdmin to set it up; I run it on my main DNS servers, and I set it up manually.

I'd guess (I may very well be wrong) that those of us with multiple servers and multiple IP#s need the flexibility of being able to host rDNS for all our allocations on one server, even though the IP#s were spread out over multiple servers. That appears to me to be easier done manually.

Additionally, I once had a client who couldn't get DirectAdmin IPv4 rDNS allocations to work for him; I had to look at how the rDNS authorization was passed to him and create zones that worked according to that.

Maybe I'm making something more complex than it is or should be. And maybe as providers start giving out IPv6 space they'll automatically assign rDNS authority.
