how to reinstall mysql

Ok so i deleted my old domain information by mistake and now i can't create a database for my gallery. I get the error
Error connecting to MySQL: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/tmp/mysql.sock' (2)
Also, i go into my files and i don't have a directory entitled tmp or mysql.sock

Now i have searched the forum and i keep finding post about restarting or reinstalling Mysql but i have no idea how to go about that. I know nothing about mysql so if anyone can help me out and give me a good explanation on how to go about this.

either the socket has been deleted or direct admin is looking for it in the wrong place

Login to DirectAdmin, click the Service Monitor link, and then click the Start link out by "mysqld". It sounds like MySQL simply isn't running. If you still have problems after that, you'll have to start it via shell so you can see the errors it reports.
