So I know this is going to sound dumb but I am at a loss.

I am simply trying to upload my site to a new hosting company (zensix), using DirectAdmin it shows my current domain as rave-nation.com, but I cannot figure out how to just upload my site to the zensix servers and directadmin.

If anyone could help me I would greatly appreciate it, also please use words a newb can understand.

Thank You

Ahh okay I got it I was using ftp.rave-nation.com instead of the server ip address!

When moving domain or registering a new one, it takes up to 24-48 hours to get DNS servers updated. That's why you should wait.

And as soon as your domain is delegated and resolved, you'd better not to use IP address, but use your real domain name to access any services.

This is not entirely true. There is almost no reason to not use the IP to upload. In fact in many cases a client cannot transfer DNS until he's sure things will be 100% operational at the new host. e.g files uploaded, DB's configured, emails, forwards added and so on.

That being said, some item's specifically website and some DB connection paths should always use the base host incase you must change IP's either by desire or unseen issue with the host.

What exactly is not true? If in your location and your gTLD it takes root servers less time to get updated, that's good. In our country registrars officially say about 24-48 hours, but practically it takes about 2-8 hours. That's it.

I don't know how is it by you. But we suggest not using IP to our customers in order to get access to any services. That's mostly caused by the fact, that for some reasons account might be moved to another server and IP will change. In your case it might differs.

Of course, IP can be used when account is just registered. And one would want to use IP to access FTP server. But it's a good thing to replace IP with proper domain name, as soon as DNS is updated and domain is delegated.

Any way please do not consider my words as a direction to deal your things further. That's just a piece of my experience.
