Hi everyone,

Before posting i had a look on older posts but nothing looked like my issue.

Everything is in the subject :)

For a week now, every morning, at the same time, i get a Message System mail meaning that my http on server is down.

I keep trying to restart apache through DA but nothing moves :(

Actually, i've to reboot the server which makes restart apache. OK, i know it's not the solution for but i've nothing else to solve that issue.

i suppose that i've to configure it again or re install, what do you think??

Thanks for your support

JP

Hello
Im no expert, but sure need more information to debug your problem.

Have you checked the apache logs ?

After you reboot, check the output if you restart apache. (under ssh)

Just an idea, but perhaps you have a disk space problem ?

Are you running debian?
I got the same issue sometimes, not even getting back up again.

Got monit installed now to ensure uptime and restart services automatically.

Check if anything is running via cron right before your httpd goes down in the morning.

I had the same thing happen to me one time after DirectAdmin was installed. The only thing I did right after, not even in direct relation to the issue, was check for updates on my distribution. I am running DirectAdmin with CentOS 5.2.

hello,

i have an similar problem, nothing specials in the log files... when trying to start Apache true direct admin it says:

An error has occurred

Details

/sbin/service httpd start 2>&1

so i must reboot the server and then anything works again.....

this is what the apache error log says at the time it stops:

[Tue Apr 14 00:31:18 2009] [notice] Apache/2.2.8 (Unix) mod_ssl/2.2.8 OpenSSL/0.9.8b DAV/2 PHP/5.2.5 configured -- resuming normal operations
[Tue Apr 14 00:38:02 2009] [notice] caught SIGTERM, shutting down

does someone have an issue???

I had this issue on an Ubuntu VPS (Plesk, Apache 2+, PHP4 and qmail) ages ago, even though Plesk doesn't IIRC restart Apache every night. I couldn't seem to fix it.....

Now I have dedicated servers (Debian Etch) with DA, and, touch wood, this issue hasn't cropt up - even though most of the domains use the PHP mail() function (which is the main reason this issue arises)....

Try restarting apache from the command line. It will give you more information.

I had these symptoms three months back, on my Debian server. It was some Spanish guy trying to execute an IRC bot in /tmp. He or she did this every night, between 24:00 - 02:00, which caused httpd to crash, and made it unable to start nor restart, unless a full reboot was carried out.

I would recommend modifying php.ini like tillo has posted here; http://www.directadmin.com/forum/showpost.php?p=143980&postcount=8
And securing your /tmp folder; http://www.directadmin.com/forum/showthread.php?threadid=12323

It solved my problems back then, haven't had a single shut-down of httpd since then. That's my five cents though.
