Hello.

Is this a new server? If yes, test if your datacenter has port 25 open for you.
Try this via SSH as root if you get a connection:
telnet mail.directadmin.com 25

If you do not get a connection, check your firewall if port 25 is open and if yes, contact your datacenter or server provider.

If you do get a connection, then check back here, we will check further.

Hello Richard,
Hetzner reported that port 25 is blocked and the outgoing port is 587 .
I found it in the directadmin doc
"How to get Exim to listen on another port on top of port 25"

inserting in /etc/exim.variables.conf.custom
daemon_smtp_ports = 25 : 587

But I keep having problems sending emails

Hello.
Yes that is correct. Hetzner does close port 25 outgoing by default on vps systems nowadays.
But if I'm not mistaken you can ask them to open the port.

What you found is not the solution, because that is a solution for -users- who want to send mail via your server if their ISP has blocked port 25 outgoing. You server needs port 25 outgoing to work, to be able to communicate with other mailservers out there in the internet world.

So you have to ask Hetzner to open port 25 for you because you are running a mailserver.
If they won't do that, you have to use a mailrelay service for your mailserver.

You're welcome.
Wasn't Hetzner prepared to open port 25 for you?
Or are they only doing that for dedicated servers nowadays?

For dedicated too? We got multiple dedi's with Hetzner, and we use port 25, I thought they only closed for cloud and VPS servers.
They will open it for us for dedi's anyway if we get new dedi's otherwise they loose customers.

Thanks for the info!

Yep thanks @zEitEr but also there it says for cloud hosting, I haven't seen any messages about dedicated server yet.

But imho this is a good decision, too many spammers fastly rent a cheap vps or cloud server for a month and instantly start spamming, causing also issues for the cloud server providers.
