i'm just running one site and will never resell. Now all i have to do is ftp some files to the webroot, do i have to create resellers in the control panel? (currently, logged in as admin, it won't let me) or is there a better way to do this? the admin section doesn't show anything about ftp..

thanks for any help, i'm not sure what to do ! :(

You should be able to click on the "user" panel from your admin login, and create a domain there if one isn't already set up for you.

Jeff

That's what it was, thank you! At first I didn't notice the option to make a domain. They don't stand out at all, and are very small.. don't you think?

ok, now it brings me to my second issue, which is DNS. i have a domain registered overseas. I created the ns1, ns2 name servers a few days ago at my registrar as i was told to do by my host. When i type in my domain name i still get the default registrar screen. And when i type in my ip, i get sent to /var/www/html/index.html

what am i neglecting to do? are there any good tutorials for helping me through this?

thanks for any help guys!

Did you also change the domain's nameservers to point to your nameservers? It also helps if you give us the domain you are working with. There is no reason to be vague about details. Instead of saying

I created the ns1, ns2 name servers

tell us what the nameservers are.

Instead of

i have a domain registered overseas

tell us what it is.

well, i don't have everything set up properly yet. I'm also unexperienced so i would rather not disclose my domain info. I hope you understand. :)

But to explain better. I created
PHP:
ns1.[my_host_here].de
ns2.[my_host_here].de

..at my domain registrar. That's all i've done so far.

Did you also change the domain's nameservers to point to your nameservers?...

what exactly are "my namservers" :o

EDIT: are these my nameservers below?

in DA's DNS management page i have
PHP:
my_domain.de. | NS | ns1.my_domain.de.
my_domain.de. | NS | ns2.my_domain.de.

So you want a web site but you don't want anybody to ever see it. Interesting.

Please read this if you want us to help.

noooooo, only because i don't feel good about how secure i have things right now. I find it really funny how you make the assumption that i want "nobody to ever see" my site. That makes no sense whatsoever. Does it sound to you like i'm ready to go to production? NO. If you don't wanna help, that's fine, No problem. But don't make silly, emotional, irrational comments. Maybe it might be better to explain to me why i shouldn't be worried?

Already did. Obviously you did not read the page I sent you to about not obscuring your domain and dns.

The rational thing to do is tell us what domain you need help with. What doesn't make sense is to ask for help with a domain and then not tell us what the domain is.

I read it after i posted. Thanks for the link.

But in order for someone to help me with DNS do i need to disclose my IP's? maybe i'm too much of a noob, But the way i see it is that since my server isn't completely setup, people not knowing my IP's is better right now.

Yes.

That's why we point you to it. We don't want to waste our time with assumptions when linux offers us excellent diagnostic tools for which we need to know everything about your domain.

If you don't want us to help you, just keep not telling us anything. Another day of this and I suppose I can always close the thread :) .

Thanks.

Jeff

Just, wow.

If anyone(else) here could give me a general list of things i need to do to get a single domain name setup properly on DA, i would really appreciate it. I'm not asking for you to tell me exactly what to do, or for you to do the work for me. I can work with very general instructions, and take it from there. I just don't want to make a bunch of guesses is all.

Thanks in advance.

But you are having a problem with the general list. Anyway here it is.

Add your domain
Upload your content
Change the nameservers at the registrar.

floyd! :)

it's not that i'm having a problem with the general list.. it's that i don't know how many items are in that list. I just want to make sure i'm doing everything that i need to do and am not forgetting a step.

Did you read the installation instructions for a new DA install? This should probably answer most of your questions:

http://www.directadmin.com/newinstall.html

As Jeff and Floyd pointed out, not telling us your DNS data does nobody any good. It creates a lot of confusion when trying to troubleshoot issues. So, if you want people to help you out, please provide the information that they are asking for so that they can do so (don't provide usernames and passwords though :)).
