IMAP + Outlook Quick Question

I screwed up. I changed someone from IMAP to POP3, and thus deleted their account in Outlook and re-set it up under POP3. The problem is, I lost his contacts. When you delete the IMAP account in Outlook, does it clean out the contacts on the server or were they never on the server, and I cleaned them off Outlook only?

The contact list is not mantained on server-side using IMAP, so all the contact list was only on Outlook side.
