Hi,
after a period of directadmin use we decided to upgrade our web server hardware and freebsd version.

The licence is for FreeBSD 6.0 and the new operating system is 6.2
The original server is online (i have directadmin files, home dirs etc for backup to the new disks)

I thought of this scenario as the best way to have the less downtime :
- setup new os
- setup directadmin
- overwrite directadmin files from the backup of the old server
- shutdown the old server, copy home dirs and mail and start the new server.

The problem is that my setup.sh shows freebsd 6.2 version but must match my licence (6.1).

And how can i change my licence to the new os version?

If i change my licence to 6.2 will be possible for the old server to run until the new is ready?

Contact DA sales; only they can help you with the license issues.

If you're using new hardware why are you worried about downtime; can't you take your time?

One way to get all the files you'll need to back up is to run the System Backup feature (sysbk). Not the new admin backup in beta, but the original System Backup.

However if you do, just don't copy all the files it saves over to the new system blindly, as you're changing OS versions and you could have some changes in files.

I'm not worry about the downtime (thats why i decided have a backup first and test it on the new server)...
I 'm worry about if DA has any self check system and after changing my licence the old system that is up will stop running..
My question is does DA checks the licences only for installation or keeps checking for as long as the web server is up?

Your license will only work on the IP# and OS Distribution and version it's assigned for. It'll stop if you change the IP# or the OS. Which is why I suggest you contact DirectAdmin Sales department.
