Installatron - Joomla question

I'm prompted to install Joomla with additional verbiage added to the end of my URL address. I was going to install into the "root directory," but was given this warning"

"Notice: You have chosen to install into the 'root directory' (the top level directory) of the selected domain.

This is not a problem, and is a perfectly acceptable location to install a script using Installatron. However, please note that backups (created by the 'backup' tool or during upgrades) for scripts that share a directory with other content are not guaranteed to contain all files associated with the install.

If you wish to install in this directory, click the Continue button below. Or you can edit the path before continuing."

So, it defaults to "/joomla," but I changed it to "/welcome."

Even with the site live, when I enter my address (http://www.myurladdress.com/), it cannot be found. What am I doing wrong?

It looks like http://www.myurladdress.com/ goes to a Godaddy page. The first thing you need to do is point myurladdress.com to your server.

The "myurladdress" is not an actual address. I guess I wasn't clear.

If the site is installed using ...urladdress.com/welcome or ...urladdress.com/joomla or whatever... can the regular domain be set up to point to it?

i.e., you type in www.myurladdress.com and it automatically goes to http://www.myurladdress.com/welcome/

Make more sense?

Gee I wonder why. Could it be that its installed on http://www.myurladdress.com/welcome After all that IS what we were told.

Of course there is no way we can check it because we were given false information. We cannot check http://www.myurladdress.com/ or http://www.myurladdress.com/welcome or http://www.myurladdress.com/joomla

Garbage in garbage out. Give us fake information and we will be happy to give you fake solutions.

"we were told"?? I didn't know you spoke for everyone. If I wasn't clear enough, a little patience would be appreciated. The actual site is immaterial, the question I have is basically.... what are the dangers, if any, in installing a site with scripts to the root directory as opposed to installing into a subdirectory. If you don't know, no problem, but spare me the condescension. BTW... if you don't recognize "www.mysiteurl.com" as an example, you probably won't have an answer. I could be wrong. if so, email me offline at [email protected]. Thanks.

It is when you want us to check a site for you. You had said that http://www.myurladdress.com/ was not working correctly and wanted help with it.

That does not imply that I speak for everyone. It implies what you told everyone. You said you installed joomla in the welcome directory but yet you tried to access it by just going to http://www.myurladdress.com/ Of course its not going to show up. You did not install it in the root directory. I was going to check it and verify everything for you before answering but I could not because you gave us fake information. So there is nothing for us to check. Please read this.

You did not ask that before. Answer: No danger that I know of. I have done it many times. Its best if you do it on a clean domain where no site had existed before. That way no important files you have get overwritten.

I am not in a position to know for sure that you don't actually own mysiteurl.com. example.com is the domain that has been set aside to be used as an example. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Example.com

As Floyd pointed out, you made it material by posting your error.

Joomla told you the danger. The Joomla backup system may not backup other content, not originated by Joomla. If all content is originated by Joomla there won't be a problem. If you use the DirectAdmin backup system instead of the Joomla backup system, there won't be a problem.
