Hey guys,

I'm sorry to be a bother, but I rarely ask for help and try to figure things out on my own, but right now I'm fed up with everything.

After updating a few things to my server about a week ago I decided it was time yesterday, after about 2 months of uptime, to restart the server.

Well, the server didn't reboot. I had to contact the datacenter and I waited for about 16 hours for them to boot it up. I still haven't been told the reason to why it didn't boot up on it's own and why booting it from the APC Web/SNMP Management Card system didn't work. But I think it has to do with SOMETHING that I updated the server with. Maybe some misconfiguration of some sort. From what I can tell they have updated the kernel. Or they surely did something, because I notice some things in the shell I havent noticed before, including being able to root directly to the server. (I will change this after.)

Anyway, I noticed now that only the MAIN IP of the server is working. All the other IPs I have setup on the server aren't working. I'm not sure if this is a server-side problem or it has to do with the datacenter.

Honestly, it takes ages to contact them. Also the time diference doesn't help. (I'm in Europe, server is in Kansas City.) Could it be some configuration on the server? Or could it just have to do with the Datacenter?

I'm so fed up with all of this. Being a customer of the same datacenter for 2 years now and when something goes wrong it always takes ages to get a reply.

Hope you guys can help.

Whatever the data center did has overwritten some files on the server.

At the very least the sshd config file (because you can log in as root) and the startup files (because they're not calling up the custom script DA uses to start the IP#s working when the server is started).

SInce they broke it it'll be hard to figure out how to fix it without asking what they did.

Well, I found a solution for the IP problem. I just removed all the IPs (accept server IP) from DA and added them again, assigned them their rightful owners, etc, and they all work perfectly now. Odd.

As for the root login, it seems to not allow it anymore, maybe they fixed that again.

I still don't understand why the server wont start up. The Datacenter said the server DOES startup, but it doesn't bring up programs like SSH, etc... :( It has to be done manualy.

As I said, whatever they did overwrote a lot of files on the server.

Me, I'd be upset with them, backup all the sites, and start over.

Your mileage may of course necessarily vary.

With many hours and some help from John of DirectAdmin, the server seems to be ok now. I'm still afraid to reboot it. :) Eather way, everything is working now, and that's what matters.
