Thanks for reading and please provide your advice to help a newbie (me) in some overall design here. I have one dedicated server, with 5 useable IPs. I have set my main domain at GoDaddy to point to my main IP here, and nameservers under NS1.mydomain.com (and NS2), both with my main IP, and also set these up with DirectAdmin. I really don't understand the DNS stuff well yet, but it must work, since my domain gets to my server now. But do I need to be reserving one or two of my 5 IPs just for the name servers, and all main domain (and others to come) from the other three? Or is it ok to use the same main IP for the two nameservers for as well as the same main domain name? Some comments on how people do it for themselves would help me determine if I am going about it the wrong way. Thanks in advance, Tony.

You can use IP#s for nameserver even if you use them for something else.

You must either list the IP# as in use by a user, or else in use as a nameserver, or else DA won't answer on that IP#.

OK, I just entered the second ip on that screen (without assigning it as advised to see what would happen), and this error came up. "IP 72.36.178.67 already exists on eth0 " Is that the error I get if the IP is not assiged as you mentioned? And also, what does "answer on that IP" mean?

Also, the Add IP screen says you must add them here before you can allocate them to a reseller, etc. But the message above kind of implies (to me the newbie) the reverse. Some explanation would help me it appears. Keep getting the etho message on the screen to add the IPs. LT said I had 5 usable ones.

The error message means that the IP#s were already working on your server; trying to add them again doesn't hurt anything.

To see if DA answers on an IP#, you can ping it or traceroute to it.
