is it safe to disable .htaccess functionality completely?

Hello,

I would like to only customize my apache via httpd.conf changes (outlined here). Since having htaccess files enabled will slow down apache, I would like to disable them completely. Does DirectAdmin depend on htaccess being enabled, or would this be safe to do?

Direcadmin ( :2222 ) doesn't depend on any webserver, only php that DA use

but in "/var/www/html/* something like
phpmyadmin / webmail depend on webserver

maybe if you force disable, some function in these webapp does't work

in such case - Nginx +phpFpm will be much faster
