Is there an easy way to switch from mbox to maildir?

In previous experience, users who store a lot of Email on a system and access it via IMAP invariably run into issues with malformed messages causing problems with their entire Mbox-formatted Email. I've run into this myself using Thunderbird which stores everything in Mbox format.

Is there an easy way to switch exim from Mbox format to Maildir format so each individual message is stored in its own file?
