Do you think this should be implemented into Directadmin?

JAWStats Website Statistics

JAWStats is a free, open-source website statistics and analytics package. It runs in conjunction with AWStats and produces clear and informative charts, graphs and tables about your website visitors.

This should be included to compliment the already existing awstats installation. This will give our users an easier to use ajax interface for their stats.

Jawstats is listed on that page... not sure how the others could replace it... piwiki is the only one the comes close and is no where near as robust or easy to drill down like jawstats. Besides piwiki is user installable via the auto script installer for directadmin.

Hmm I find it interesting that the two of you veterans would vote no without making an informative reasoning behind your decision.

Directadmin is already running awstats, jawstats is simply a different view which better demonstrates the information needed by our customers.

Why force your users to use third party analytics when we can provide them ourselves? Why not have an interface that brings our offerings closer to that of industry standards?

Why does Directadmin have to remain in the dark ages on the software packages it offers?

Atmail was included bringing new life over the old squirrelmail, so why not bring new life to our analytics offering as well?

Unless you can justify solid reasoning for a no vote, please do not vote on this subject.

I had not voted yet, so you'll have to keep the investigation running ;)
I vote yes, because it looks like a huge improvement on what comes as standard with DA.
I've never used the standard packages, because my customers were using Urchin which was much, much better than AWStats, but we're not going to have access to that anymore, so we're looking at alternatives.
If we can't find anything better that AWStats, we'll definitely implement JAWStats as I agree with you, it's 2010 and not 1999 anymore.
The problem with the default packages is that they're log analysers and we need better than that to do some proper customer behaviour analysis.

PS
I didn't know about Atmail being available in DA, but I've had such bad experience with it in the past, that I'm not really ready to go back to a paid for webmail when there are good free alternatives out there.

Thanks for the update, Yes the free version of Atmail is part of custombuild.

Since you are looking for better alternatives for your customers I will enlighten you on what I have been envisioning.

While I want to improve the default apps such as analytics, webmail, search engine submission, phpmyadmin etc. "The defaults themselves need to be competitive with todays standards, it would be a mistake for us to continually let 3rd party scripts upstage us eg google analytics etc, I mean seriously what happens when they step into the web hosting game... they will strip you of all your customers that is what... microsoft already is starting web hosting as well as yahoo... google wont be far behind. They have already grabbed email with gmail for domains they are grabbing analytics with google analytics, next will be the web hosting itself.

So yes it is very important we keep up with times on these apps or later we will suffer the results and Directadmin has a responsibility of keeping us competitive or they soon will lose their ability to stay in business as well.

Now that I am done with that rant, have you checked out clicky? I was thinking upgrade awstats to jawstats for free for our customers, then offer a premium paid for upgrade to "clicky"

Clicky is a whitelabel stats system much like google analytics but is much easier for non techs to understand what information they are looking at and better assists.

Great thing is the white label pricing makes it extremely affordable to add in as an upsell item.

I have been researching customer behavior research solutions for my own uses as well, so if you have any ideas please do share.

I think this would be a good improvement cosmetically for AWStats in DirectAdmin without much risk to security threats or trying something new and obscure (It's a well-known already used stats program just spruced up).

I like MAWStats better ;), but these projects don't seem very active...
Also, these apps need some sort of an installation script and much better documentation.

Maybe this can be installed for all customers, not for just 1 (sub)domain?
Maybe you can modify the '/usr/local/directadmin/scripts/awstats.sh' for it ?

And is this default with [r]DNS lookups etc?
