I am trying to install Joomla for the first time. I seem to be able to upload (ftp) the complete folder alright, but get an error message when viewing the index.php in a browser.
Can someone advise me whether I did something wrong or if it is something (settings?) my host should fix?
Thanks!!

You don't have permission to access /joomla/index.php on this server.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.
Apache/2.0.59 (Unix) mod_perl/1.99_17-dev Perl/v5.8.5 mod_ssl/2.0.59 OpenSSL/0.9.7a PHP/4.4.4 FrontPage/5.0.2.2634 Server at www.philpot.nl Port 80

Did you set all CHMODs like described in the tutorial or in the setup?
You have to set the right chmods, create an empty configuration.php, chmod it also and then go through the setup process (under www.philpot.nl/joomla/administrator/index.php) --> here you will see other directories which need chmods, do it, after fill out all needed info, the database account and so on --> this will be written into the configuration.php --> on the end from the setup you have to delete the install dir and then you can directly login as admin or view the site as user.
There are tutorials on www.joomla.org and helpful people in the board there.
Let me know if you succeed or not, i`ve setted up a lot of joomla sites. There is also a plugin for DA which can do the job - the Installatron Script Installer (pay-software), look here in the board under 3party.
If you have root access check if your files run under "user" and not "apache" (chown)
