Hi,
I just installed directadmin on a freebsd machine. Install went smooth, but running into an issue with how to set this all up.

for example:
server01.testcompany.com is the name of the server. i want to host www.testcompany.com on the same server.

I have a domain registered with namecheap and i want to transfer the dns over to my server, the webhost.
so in namecheap.com's dns area, i add ns1.testcompany.com & ns2.testcompany.com and its fails to add.

I feel like i'm missing something huge here...as i want to transfer the dns to my webserver, but do other servers know that ns1.testcompany & ns2.testcompany resolve to my server?

any suggestions?
much thanks

Specifically what is the REAL domain you are talking about (not testcompany.com). As we can probably help with DNS resolving issues.

Have you checked if you have the appropriate entries in your DNS settings on the DirectAdmin user account?

Have you setup the DNS delegation to the IP address of your ns1.<domain> server (which I'm assuming is also your DA server).

Are you going to use a secondary server for your ns2? - probably a good idea - and you can do this relatively cheaply with third-party dns hosting.

First you have to creat those hosts (ns1,ns2.testcompany.com) in your account at namecheap.com ... I mean you should have 2 IP addresses and configure those IPs in your area at namecheap.com (be aware that there is a difference between creating DNS hosts with IPs and just transferring from host that already exist to another)

after you creat those two name servers go to the modification DNS and enter those to name servers you have created

Last thing .. add those ns1,ns2 in DA as reseller by clicking on "Nameservers" and link it to the 2 IPs you added before.. Ofcaurse it'll take a while to work (24 huors at most)

I hope this is helpfull .. excuse my English it's not my native :)
