Hey all,
I have a lifetime license I want to turn into a backup/development server mostly for my hobby project sites and main server backups. I want to turn an old computer into a KVM machine to spin up VPSes for projects. Can I run DirectAdmin on a hypervisor? I don't have dedicated IPv4. I would have to use my dynamic one from my ISP (which rarely changes) and then set the DA hypervisor as the DMZ.

Would that work? Any anticipated problems? Someone said DA licenses are no longer tied to IP but tied to serial.

Hi,

Yes you can install DA behind NAT, but to check your websites you must set static local IP for VPS, so you can open your websites from this VPS in local network through this IP. I'm not sure that temporary IP that provider gives you will be accessible from outside, maybe this shared between few dozens of clients on same switch. But you can try :) Or you can pay your provider for static IP (usually 2-3$ month).

Mine charges $100 setup then $15 a month. Kinda steep for what I'm using it for. I'd do $3 in a heartbeat.

I think I get a unique dynamic address, so I should be able to throw it in the DMZ. I just know DA used to be tired to IP, so I didn't now if it was going to fail. So much development these days. I log into my server like twice a year, and every time I do, it's all changed. lol It's great to see

From a licensing perspective, it's totally fine if your public (WAN) IP address changes regularly. There's nothing you need to adjust in your account any more. Our system will be fine with license call-backs coming from different IP addresses.
