Length of DB User Name <= 16 ?

Is the limitation that mysql database user names be 16 characters or less an intrinsic limitation of mysql or a limitation imposed by some aspect of DirectAdmin? Is it at all possible to remove or circumvent this limitation?

It's a very annoying limitation - with a 9 character DA user name and the imposed _, it limits me to 6 characters which isn't quite enough for a meaningful name.

Nevermind, I finally found this thread after searching several times, and from it I foundGRANT Syntax which specifies that it is a limit of MySQL.

Is there any posibility of future versions of DirectAdmin including a modified MySQL to allow longer names? Even though I'm only a user, I'd like to know if I can hope for such conveniences in the future so I can make sure my host keeps up to date =-)

Great idea. Don't know how easy it is.

I'll bring the thread to DA staff attention. Maybe they'll know or can figure it out.

But then it would limit us to use DA-specific MySQL installs.
