Libphp5.so "garbled" error message when starting Apache

I tried to install Apcahe 2.2.3 and PHP 5.2 on my CentOS 4 server running DA but when I added the LoadModule directive tothe httpd.conf file pointing to libphp5.so I get an error message saying it is "garbled" when starting httpd.

Any ideas on how to solve this?
