Right me again.

Trying to transfer 12 domains over from cPanel to DA. All accounts in cPanel belong to root.

I followed this guide: https://docs.directadmin.com/directadmin/backup-restore-migration/migration-to-da.html
All went according to plan.

I then go to Admin Backup/Transfer. click restore.
step 1: chose local, path is /home/admin/all_backups, clicked next step, made sure "Use the IP" is set to "from the list" and it shows the shared IP.
Clicked next step.
Selected All the cpmove files showing there and then ensured Assign to Reseller is set as admin, clicked restore button.
It runs, after a while it tells me backup complete, but then in the messages I get:
An error occurred during the restore.
License is limited to 2 accounts, and you currently have 2

What am I doing wrong? All I want to do is transfer my domains over.

Yes so it's multiple accounts? Because in DA it works a bit different than in cPanel.
In cPanel you have root, but root does not have an account, you don't upload your files to /home/root directory for example. Root does not have it's own website.

So to me that sounds that there are multiple accounts, which root created. But it's still multiple accounts.

In DA it works slightly different. Admin is also a user, which is because admin also has also a user level. And files are uploaded to /home/admin etc. to get admin's website.

1 account = 1 username and password (no matter which username)

So you have the personal plus license. Then you have 2 accounts, this means you have the account "admin" and then you can create 1 other account.

You can use the 12 domains, but you all have to put them under admin, or devide them under admini and 1 other free to create account.
So admin then has his username admin and his password.
And 1 other user has a username and his password. And that is 2 accounts.

Does that make things more clear for you?

Thank you Richard, that does make sense.

So I have all the cpmove-XXX.gz files in /home/admin/all_backups in the DA server, could you point me in the direction of how to add each domain under admin so I have admin user with 20 domains?

Oh that would be a hard one, I never converted it in such way from cPanel.
Normally with DA backups one can rename the backup file and then it would be fine. But the cPanel backup files has their own names.

So I guess if you want to do it "automatically", best way is to do them one by one. Then the account is created. Then use the DA option to move domain to another user.
You have to backup databases from the user and then restore them to admin manually.

Then delete the account of the user, take the 2nd backup file and so on.

Or maybe somebody has a better idea, but that's the only one I can think of right now.

Upgrade your license maybe for one month?
Move all backups, let it create users etc.
Than move everything under one user and downgrade your license.

Maybe the DA team will give you a temp license :-)

This is what I would suggest also if you would want to do it automaticly. Just 1 user backup at a time and move domain to the user.

Or if it are simple small sites. Just create all domains at 1 user. Then rsync/ftp/scp/whatever all files to the correct domain folders. Eport and import all databases. Use imapsync for mail.

Thanks for the suggestions guys. I have a few accounts that are simple sites, and some more complex databases. I have just decided to upgrade my license to import them all, will give me time to move them around. It's half the price I was paying for cPanel.

It's a learning curve.

That's indeed the most easy solution. If you do it within a few days, you might even get lucky that DA will downgrade the license again and refund the rest. Asking can't hurt. ;)
