Limiting outgoing packets

Greetings,

I am quite a newbie, and running a tiny server. But unfortunately someone manage to hack it. I got mail for my server is used for some attack.

Until I find the reason, or find someone to find the reason I wonder is there a way to limit outgoing packets. As I said, my server is used for some type of DDos.. I think.

Disconnect it from the internet now or at least firewall it so that only your ip address is allowed in and out.

Best bet is to disconnect it and rebuild the server completely especially if you are a newbie.

You can probably limit outgoing packets through your firewall (they differ between OS distributions) but that would limit your server usability as well. Unless you're sure you can either find and resolve the problem, or you can hire someone who can find and resolve the problem, then Floyd is right; you'll probably want to save the contents and rebuild the server.

However you may want to find someone to look over your server and try to figure out how/why it happened, so it won't keep happening.
